{"id":42367,"date":"2005-06-18T21:13:02","date_gmt":"2005-06-18T13:13:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wp-productionenv-bjg9h2g2bgg5b8aa.southeastasia-01.azurewebsites.net\/news\/shuttle-launch-mandate-to-be-reduced\/"},"modified":"2005-06-18T21:13:02","modified_gmt":"2005-06-18T13:13:02","slug":"shuttle-launch-mandate-to-be-reduced","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/starpath.global\/news\/shuttle-launch-mandate-to-be-reduced\/","title":{"rendered":"Shuttle launch mandate to be reduced"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>NASA administrator Mike Griffin is to reduce the Space Shuttle\u2019s launch mandate from 28 missions to 23 \u2013 possibly as low as 15.  <\/p>\n<p>  Delays to returning to the Shuttle to flight and evaluations on processing times in-between launches has prompted Griffin to reduce the launch mandate.\n<\/p>\n<p><font face=\"arial, helvetica, sans-serif\">During Return to Flight briefings, NASA had noted that the three remaining Shuttles would be tasked with a 28 launch mandate, completing the construction of the International Space Station (ISS)&nbsp;\u2013 with one launch possibly used to service the Hubble Space Telescope one last time.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"arial, helvetica, sans-serif\">However, that has dramatically changed \u2013 and appears to be set, given the language used by the new NASA head.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"arial, helvetica, sans-serif\">\u201cI\u2019ll be very strong on this,\u201d said Griffin during an interview at the Paris Air Show. \u201cWe know that we cannot execute 28 flights between now and shuttle retirement.\u201d<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"arial, helvetica, sans-serif\">NASA has already started to look at alternative ways of sending up parts of the ISS to reduce the burden on the Shuttle.
