{"id":42370,"date":"2005-06-14T22:56:16","date_gmt":"2005-06-14T14:56:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wp-productionenv-bjg9h2g2bgg5b8aa.southeastasia-01.azurewebsites.net\/news\/nasa-selects-on-cev-moon-mission-in-2015\/"},"modified":"2005-06-14T22:56:16","modified_gmt":"2005-06-14T14:56:16","slug":"nasa-selects-on-cev-moon-mission-in-2015","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/starpath.global\/news\/nasa-selects-on-cev-moon-mission-in-2015\/","title":{"rendered":"NASA selects on CEV \u2013 moon mission in 2015"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Lockheed Martin Corp. and the team of Northrop Grumman Corp. and The Boeing Co. have been selected as the two companies that will \u201cfly-off\u201d their Crew Exploration Vehicle (CEV), as they compete in the design and production process for the Space Shuttle\u2019s replacement.<br \/>\n<font face=\"arial, helvetica, sans-serif\">NASA\u2019s Vision for Space Exploration calls for the CEV to carry up to six astronauts beyond low-Earth orbit soon after the Space Shuttle is retired in 2010, and then on to the moon as early as 2015.<\/font>   <\/p>\n<p><font face=\"arial, helvetica, sans-serif\">\u201cWe\u2019re extremely pleased that NASA has chosen the Northrop-Grumman-Boeing team to play a part in its next space initiative,\u201d said Boeing spokesman Ed Memi. \u201cWe hope to have an opportunity to make a mark on space exploration history.\u201d<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"arial, helvetica, sans-serif\">Lockheed Martin refused to comment.<\/p>\n<p>The CEV acquisition strategy is a multi-phased project. Phase 1 called for industry to mature their crewed vehicle designs and demonstrate their ability to manage the cost, schedule, and risk of human-rated spacecraft development. <\/p>\n<p>Phase 2, covering final CEV design and production, was scheduled to start with a down-selection to a single industry team in 2008. To reduce or eliminate the gap between the Shuttle\u2019s retirement in 2010 and an operational CEV, the Phase 2 down-selection is planned for 2006. <\/p>\n<p>Results of NASA Administrator Michael Griffin\u2019s Exploration Systems Architectural Study will be incorporated into a Call For Improvements later this year to invite Phase 2 proposals from the Phase 1 contractors. <\/font><\/p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Lockheed Martin Corp. and the team of Northrop Grumman Corp. and The Boeing Co. have been selected as the two companies that will \u201cfly-off\u201d their Crew Exploration Vehicle (CEV), as they compete in the design and production process for the Space Shuttle\u2019s replacement.
