{"id":42427,"date":"2005-04-01T19:18:32","date_gmt":"2005-04-01T11:18:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wp-productionenv-bjg9h2g2bgg5b8aa.southeastasia-01.azurewebsites.net\/news\/virgin-galactic-ready-to-launch-in-30-months-branson\/"},"modified":"2005-04-01T19:18:32","modified_gmt":"2005-04-01T11:18:32","slug":"virgin-galactic-ready-to-launch-in-30-months-branson","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/starpath.global\/news\/virgin-galactic-ready-to-launch-in-30-months-branson\/","title":{"rendered":"Virgin Galactic ready to launch in 30 months \u2013 Branson"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>British billionaire tycoon Sir Richard Branson has stated that his space travel company, Virgin Galactic, will be taking its first commercial passengers into space in the next 30 months.  <\/p>\n<p>  Branson \u2013 who made his billions in the music management and retail sectors, before expanding into airlines, rail travel and mobile phones to name but a few \u2013 signed a lucrative technology license contract with Paul Allen\u2019s Mojave Aerospace Ventures last year \u2013 during their successful back to back launch of SpaceShipOne (SS1).\n<\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Arial\">The highly acclaimed Burt Rutan and his Scaled Composites team designed the ship \u2013 solely through the funding provided by former Microsoft co-founder Allen \u2013 which went on to win the $10 million&nbsp;<!--StartFragment -->Ansari&nbsp;X-Prize by successfully achieving two launches that broke the required altitude of&nbsp;<!--StartFragment -->328,000 feet, twice within 14 days.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Arial\">Virgin Galactic\u2019s deal will see&nbsp;up to $22 million being invested in the new ships \u2013 and&nbsp;will be offering seats on the vehicle at around $190,000 per head \u2013 a price that will also include three days of astronaut training.&nbsp;<!--StartFragment -->Virgin will reinvest the proceeds in developing a new generation of vehicles.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Arial\">\u201cThe plan for the new spaceship is complete \u2013&nbsp;and work on the project will commence in the next three months, with the first commercial space flight to take off in two-and-half years,\u201d Branson told a press conference in the Indian city of Bombay yesterday.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Arial\">\u201cWe want to make space travel as affordable as possible to people from across the world.\u201d<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Arial\">Branson \u2013 a self-confessed thrill seeker and adventurer \u2013 will be onboard for the debut of the World\u2019s first commercial space flight, along with members of&nbsp;his family. <\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Arial\">  <\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Arial\">\u201cI, with my parents and my son and my daughter will travel in the first space flight,\u201d he added, although the 54 year-old\u2019s parents have previously stated in no uncertain terms that they have no wish to travel on the innovative vehicle.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><\/font>  <\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Arial\">The Branson\u2019s will experience around three minutes of weightlessness, while also&nbsp;viewing the curvature of the Earth against the backdrop of space.
