For nearly 12 years, Bruno had been the CEO of <strong>United Launch Alliance<\/strong>&nbsp;(ULA), which announced his resignation on December 22.<\/p>\n<p>ULA is a&nbsp;<strong>Boeing<\/strong>\u2013<strong>Lockheed Martin<\/strong> joint venture that once dominated military launch with Atlas and Delta rockets but now faces the ascension of the significantly cheaper SpaceX Falcon 9. Trends point to the increasing use of reusable or partially reusable rockets, including Falcon 9, Rocket Lab\u2019s Electron, and Blue Origin\u2019s New Shepard.<\/p>\n<p>Blue Origin\u2019s BE-4 engine powers the company\u2019s New Glenn rocket and the first stage of ULA\u2019s Vulcan Centaur, which had its&nbsp;military debut in August for the U.S. Space Force\u2019s USSF-106 mission. For ULA, BE-4 replaces the Russian RD-180, previously carried on the Atlas V.<\/p>\n<p>For the last several years, stock analysts have said that ULA is a prime candidate for acquisition by Blue Origin and other space companies, including&nbsp;Sierra Space.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWelcome Tory,\u201d Bezos posted on&nbsp;<em>X<\/em> on December 26. \u201c<em>Gradatim Ferociter<\/em>!\u201d The latter is Bezos\u2019 Blue Origin motto \u2014 a Latin phrase meaning, \u201cStep by step, fiercely.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThanks, Jeff,\u201d Bruno responded. \u201cWe are going to do important work together.
