Her appointment comes at a pivotal moment for Scotland\u2019s space ambitions, with Europe\u2019s first ever commercial launch into orbit expected to take place from Shetland in the months ahead. Space Scotland announced the appointment, Aug. 6.<\/p>\n<p>Scotland now hosts more than 180 space organisations and is one of Europe\u2019s leaders in the manufacture of small satellites, with firms like <strong>Spire Global<\/strong>, <strong>AAC Clyde Space<\/strong> and <strong>Alba Orbital<\/strong> operating from Glasgow.<\/p>\n<p>In 2022, Space Scotland\u2019s Environmental Task Force published one of the world\u2019s first national space sustainability roadmaps, commissioned by Scottish Enterprise and delivered by <strong>AstroAgency<\/strong> and <strong>Optimat<\/strong>. The roadmap attracted international engagement from the <strong>European Space Agency<\/strong> (ESA), the United Nations and others, reinforcing Scotland\u2019s leadership in sustainable space activity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cScotland\u2019s space community is still growing rapidly and has a vital role in the UK\u2019s broader space economy.
