Japanese maritime transport company Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd.<\/b> (MOL) will upgrade its from Inmarsat Maritime<\/b>\u2019s Fleet Xpress service to NexusWave, the companies announced May 21. <\/p>\n
Local Inmarsat partner JSAT Mobile Communications will be responsible for implementing and supporting the upgrades on board, covering a fleet that includes liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers, oil tankers, and car carriers.<\/p>\n

Inmarsat Maritime introduced NexusWave last year as a managed service that integrates its existing Global Xpress (GX) Ka-band network with Low-Earth Orbit (LEO) services, coastal LTE services, and an additional layer of satellite L-band. It combines multiple network underlays in one fully managed, bonded solution<\/p>\n
Inmarsat Maritime is a Viasat company. In Viasat\u2019s recent investor call, the company reported that Maritime revenue was down 8% year-over-year in the fourth quarter, but the company ended March 2025 with more than 100 ships in active service for NexusWave and orders for nearly 500 more.
