{"id":52600,"date":"2023-10-05T21:06:33","date_gmt":"2023-10-05T13:06:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wp-productionenv-bjg9h2g2bgg5b8aa.southeastasia-01.azurewebsites.net\/news\/rocket-lab-opens-engine-factory-acquired-from-virgin-orbit\/"},"modified":"2023-10-05T21:06:33","modified_gmt":"2023-10-05T13:06:33","slug":"rocket-lab-opens-engine-factory-acquired-from-virgin-orbit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/starpath.global\/news\/rocket-lab-opens-engine-factory-acquired-from-virgin-orbit\/","title":{"rendered":"Rocket Lab Opens Engine Factory Acquired from Virgin Orbit"},"content":{"rendered":"<\/p>\n<p><b>Rocket Lab<\/b> officially opened a new engine development center in Long Beach, California, in the facility acquired out of <strong>Virgin Orbit<\/strong>\u2019s bankruptcy proceedings.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The new manufacturing complex is more than 144,000 square feet and will support high-rate production of Rocket Lab\u2019s 3D printed Rutherford engine which powers the Electron rocket, as well development and production for the new Archimedes engine that will power its medium-lift rocket in development, Neutron.<\/p>\n<p>Rocket Lab acquired the factory\u2019s production assets, machinery, and equipment in May for $16.1 million.<\/p>\n<p>In a recent interview with <i>Via Satellite<\/i>, Rocket Lab CEO Peter Beck said the buy saved Rocket Lab a \u201cridiculous amount of capital and time,\u201d calling it a \u201clucky buy.\u201d He described the company\u2019s measured approach to increasing its manufacturing capabilities.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur approach to scaling is a bit different to some in the industry. Quite often what you see is people go and raise a whole bunch of money and then build a giant building, then fill it with gear. And then, they\u2019ll actually start building the thing they promised to investors. Rocket Lab\u2019s approach has always been crawl, then walk, then run,\u201d Beck said. \u201cWe add methodically and incrementally.
