{"id":53179,"date":"2023-06-29T00:56:09","date_gmt":"2023-06-28T16:56:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wp-productionenv-bjg9h2g2bgg5b8aa.southeastasia-01.azurewebsites.net\/news\/aalyria-wins-naval-research-laboratory-laser-comms-contract\/"},"modified":"2023-06-29T00:56:09","modified_gmt":"2023-06-28T16:56:09","slug":"aalyria-wins-naval-research-laboratory-laser-comms-contract","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/starpath.global\/news\/aalyria-wins-naval-research-laboratory-laser-comms-contract\/","title":{"rendered":"Aalyria Wins Naval Research Laboratory Laser Comms Contract"},"content":{"rendered":"<\/p>\n<p><strong>Google<\/strong> connectivity-focused spinoff<strong> Aalyria<\/strong> has a new contract from the <strong>Office of Naval Research and Naval Research Laboratory<\/strong> (NRL) to develop over-the-horizon connectivity for the Navy\u2019s sea, air, and land assets.<\/p>\n<p>The initial $7 million contract award is for the first phase of the Navy\u2019s Secure Optical Aerial Relay (SOAR) project, which aims to provide a low latency, high bandwidth free space optical communication capability for warfighting scenarios.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Aalyria plans to use its Tightbeam light free space optics technology for the program, and Tightbeam terminals will be delivered to the Navy for installation on naval aircraft and other platforms. The company claims Tightbeam can deliver speeds starting at 100 Gbps through hundreds of kilometers of atmosphere.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen we demonstrate Tightbeam\u2019s capabilities, the reaction is routinely one of disbelief,\u201d said Nathan Wolfe, CTO of Aalyria Technologies. \u201cThe technology can deliver faster speeds, across greater distances, and through more difficult conditions than people think is possible.
