{"id":54957,"date":"2022-08-05T20:49:14","date_gmt":"2022-08-05T12:49:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wp-productionenv-bjg9h2g2bgg5b8aa.southeastasia-01.azurewebsites.net\/news\/lockheed-martin-to-launch-3-satellites-in-2023-to-advance-joint-all-domain-operations\/"},"modified":"2022-08-05T20:49:14","modified_gmt":"2022-08-05T12:49:14","slug":"lockheed-martin-to-launch-3-satellites-in-2023-to-advance-joint-all-domain-operations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/starpath.global\/news\/lockheed-martin-to-launch-3-satellites-in-2023-to-advance-joint-all-domain-operations\/","title":{"rendered":"Lockheed Martin to Launch 3 Satellites in 2023 to Advance Joint All-Domain Operations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Lockheed Martin<\/strong>&nbsp;said that it plans to launch three company developed satellites next year to help demonstrate Joint All-Domain Operations (JADO).<\/p>\n<p>The effort is part of the company\u2019s Space-Augmented JADO Environment (SAJE) test bed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn 2023, Lockheed Martin will launch its own constellation of small satellites to demonstrate how space can provide global battlefield awareness, sensing and connectivity in even the most austere, denied or contested areas,\u201d per Lockheed Martin.<\/p>\n<p>The three are two Pony Express 2 satellites and one tactical intelligence, surveillance &amp; reconnaissance (ISR) and communications satellite (TacSat).<\/p>\n<p>The space-based JADO test bed \u201cwill provide a variety of sensors, processors and communications links in space to perform live on orbit demonstrations and experiments\u201d for battle management command and control, ISR tasking, mission data processing at the edge\u2013SmartSat, and direct downlink, Lockheed Martin said.<\/p>\n<p>The company announced SmartSat in March 2019&nbsp;to allow satellites to be configured for new missions while in orbit through smartphone-like application updates.<\/p>\n<p>Pony Express 2 is a follow-on to the Pony Express 1 nanosatellite mission that Lockheed Martin said launched in 2019. In addition to SmartSat, Pony Express 2 is to demonstrate mesh networking, tactical communications, and Lockheed Martin\u2019s HiveStar distributed application technologies, while TacSat\u2013based on the Space Development Agency\u2019s Transport Layer Tranche O design\u2013is to host the \u201cfirst-ever&nbsp;5G.MIL&nbsp;payload on orbit\u201d and to feature on-orbit processing, ISR sensing, and advanced communications,\u201d per Lockheed Martin.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe timing for fielding this new [SAJE] space testbed in 2023 couldn\u2019t be better, as SAJE will be available to participate in the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command\u2019s&nbsp;<i>Northern Edge&nbsp;<\/i>exercise,\u201d the company said<i>. \u201c<\/i>SAJE would also be available for JADO demonstrations to advance the U.S. Air Force\u2019s Advanced Battle Management System (ABMS), the U.S. Navy\u2019s&nbsp;Project Overmatch&nbsp;and the U.S. Army\u2019s&nbsp;Project Convergence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>This story was first published by Via Satellite sister outlet Defense Daily.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Lockheed Martin&nbsp;said that it plans to launch three company developed satellites next year to help demonstrate Joint All-Domain Operations (JADO).
