{"id":56774,"date":"2021-08-26T20:49:16","date_gmt":"2021-08-26T12:49:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wp-productionenv-bjg9h2g2bgg5b8aa.southeastasia-01.azurewebsites.net\/news\/us-space-force-declares-three-gps-iii-satellites-available-for-launch\/"},"modified":"2021-08-26T20:49:16","modified_gmt":"2021-08-26T12:49:16","slug":"us-space-force-declares-three-gps-iii-satellites-available-for-launch","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/starpath.global\/news\/us-space-force-declares-three-gps-iii-satellites-available-for-launch\/","title":{"rendered":"US Space Force Declares Three GPS III Satellites Available for Launch"},"content":{"rendered":"<\/p>\n<p>In the last three months, the <strong>U.S. Space Force<\/strong>\u2019s Space Systems Command (SSC), previously known as Space and Missile Systems Center, has declared three&nbsp;<strong>Lockheed Martin<\/strong>&nbsp;GPS III satellites \u201cavailable for launch (AFL),\u201d SSC said on Aug. 26.<\/p>\n<p>The three birds \u2013 GPS III SV06, SV07, and SV08 \u2013 are awaiting callup at Lockheed Martin\u2019s GPS III plant in Waterton, Colorado. The first satellite, SV06, is to launch next year and join the operational constellation of 31 GPS satellites.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSV06, SV07, and SV08 AFL milestones in just three months prove that GPS III production continues to benefit from efficiencies with each satellite delivery,\u201d Col. Edward Byrne, chief of SSC\u2019s Space Production Corps\u2019 Medium Earth Orbit Space Systems division, said in an Aug. 26 statement.<\/p>\n<p>In the latest GPS III launch in June, a&nbsp;<b>SpaceX&nbsp;<\/b>Falcon 9 rocket launched SV05 GPS III in what marked the first time a National Security Space Launch (NSSL) mission was conducted on a reused booster.<\/p>\n<p>The booster used in that mission also lofted a&nbsp;GPS III satellite to orbit in November 2020. Last September, the U.S. Space Force&nbsp;announced a plan&nbsp;to reuse flight-proven SpaceX boosters and agreed to refly a booster for SV06 also.<\/p>\n<p>GPS provides Positioning, Navigation, and Timing signals and is a critical part of national infrastructure, driving an estimated $300 billion in annual economic benefit, per Lockheed Martin. The GPS III satellites are to provide up to three times improved accuracy and eight times the anti-jamming capabilities of earlier GPS birds.<\/p>\n<p>SV05 established the GPS constellation\u2019s baseline for Military Code (M-Code), a more secure signal.
