Virgin Orbit <\/b>has tapped the former CEO of OneWeb Satellites<\/b>, Tony Gingiss, as the company\u2019s first chief operating officer (COO). In a Wednesday release, Virgin Orbit said Gingiss will oversee day-to-day operations at the company\u2019s manufacturing facility in Long Beach, California.<\/p>\n
OneWeb Satellites is the joint venture between OneWeb and Airbus <\/b>that manufactures the constellation\u2019s satellites. Gingiss led the company through design, low-rate-initial production, pilot launches, and into full production. He oversaw the opening of the company\u2019s high-volume satellite production facility in Florida in 2019. OneWeb Satellites has not yet announced a new CEO. <\/p>\n
This news comes after Virgin Orbit successfully demonstrated its LauncherOne spacecraft in January, deploying 10 payloads for NASA<\/strong>\u2019s Launch Services Program (LSP). LauncherOne is the first orbital class, air-launched, liquid-fueled rocket to successfully reach space.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m very excited to welcome Tony to our Virgin Orbit family.
