{"id":61419,"date":"2019-10-04T18:29:29","date_gmt":"2019-10-04T10:29:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wp-productionenv-bjg9h2g2bgg5b8aa.southeastasia-01.azurewebsites.net\/news\/nasa-ocean-monitoring-satellite-mission-ends\/"},"modified":"2019-10-04T18:29:29","modified_gmt":"2019-10-04T10:29:29","slug":"nasa-ocean-monitoring-satellite-mission-ends","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/starpath.global\/news\/nasa-ocean-monitoring-satellite-mission-ends\/","title":{"rendered":"NASA Ocean-Monitoring Satellite Mission Ends"},"content":{"rendered":"<\/p>\n<p>The Jason-2\/Ocean Surface Topography Mission (OSTM), the third in a U.S.-European series of satellite missions designed to measure sea surface height, successfully ended its science mission on Oct. 1. <strong>NASA<\/strong> and its mission partners made the decision to end the mission after detecting deterioration in the spacecraft\u2019s power system.<\/p>\n<p>Jason-2\/OSTM, a joint NASA mission with the French space agency <strong>Centre National d\u2019Etudes Spatiales<\/strong> (CNES), the <strong>National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration<\/strong> (NOAA), and the <strong>European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites<\/strong> (EUMETSAT), launched in June 2008. The mission extended the long-term record of sea surface height measurements started by the NASA-CNES TOPEX\/Poseidon and Jason-1 missions. Jason-2\/OSTM\u2019s 11-year lifetime well exceeded its three-year design life.
