{"id":64444,"date":"2018-08-01T20:09:58","date_gmt":"2018-08-01T12:09:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wp-productionenv-bjg9h2g2bgg5b8aa.southeastasia-01.azurewebsites.net\/news\/sstl-to-launch-gnss-reflectometry-ocean-wind-data-service\/"},"modified":"2018-08-01T20:09:58","modified_gmt":"2018-08-01T12:09:58","slug":"sstl-to-launch-gnss-reflectometry-ocean-wind-data-service","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/starpath.global\/news\/sstl-to-launch-gnss-reflectometry-ocean-wind-data-service\/","title":{"rendered":"SSTL to Launch GNSS-Reflectometry Ocean Wind Data Service"},"content":{"rendered":"<\/p>\n<p><strong>Surrey Satellite Technology<\/strong> (SSTL) and the <strong>National Oceanography Center<\/strong> (NOC) launched the first Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS)- Reflectometry ocean wind data service that is global, with support from the <strong>European Space Agency<\/strong> (ESA).<\/p>\n<p>The data service is free and is hosted on <strong>Earth Reflected Radio-Navigation Signals by Satellite<\/strong>\u2019s (MERRBYS) website, where users can access measurements of wind taken by a specially designed GNSS receiver hosted on SSTL\u2019s TechDemoSat-1 satellite, which collects GNSS signals reflected off the surface of the ocean. TechDemoSat-1 also collected GNSS reflections off land and polar regions, opening the door for new applications of this technology, such as soil moisture and ice measurements.<\/p>\n<p>The current service is a pilot demonstration showing the potential for a new source of wind and wave measurements from in-orbit, using a small satellite.
