{"id":67098,"date":"2017-10-13T00:19:15","date_gmt":"2017-10-12T16:19:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wp-productionenv-bjg9h2g2bgg5b8aa.southeastasia-01.azurewebsites.net\/news\/intelsats-riegelman-addresses-concerns-on-5g-proposal\/"},"modified":"2017-10-13T00:19:15","modified_gmt":"2017-10-12T16:19:15","slug":"intelsats-riegelman-addresses-concerns-on-5g-proposal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/starpath.global\/news\/intelsats-riegelman-addresses-concerns-on-5g-proposal\/","title":{"rendered":"Intelsat\u2019s Riegelman Addresses Concerns on 5G Proposal"},"content":{"rendered":"<\/p>\n<p>In a presentation delivered at the end of this week\u2019s DC5G 2017 Summit, <strong>Intelsat<\/strong> Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing Kurt Riegelman asserted that satellite operators will continue to be the primary users of C-band spectrum under the company\u2019s joint proposal with <strong>Intel<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>A handful of satellite operator executives, including <strong>ABS <\/strong>CEO Tom Choi, have already voiced concerns that regulators could use the proposal as a means to delegitimize satellite use of C-band spectrum in other regions. Hoping to allay the apprehension, Riegelman explained that the United States is unique in that two companies \u2014 <strong>SES<\/strong> and Intelsat \u2014 control the majority of licensed C-band services.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe reason that we are terrified in most places of having anyone coming into our spectrum is because you can\u2019t create that situation anywhere else,\u201d he said. \u201cIn Europe, it doesn\u2019t work this way. Europe doesn\u2019t have as much content distribution over C-band like we have in the United States.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Due to SES and Intelsat\u2019s dominance, Riegelman said the company has a strong belief it can create a shared use program in the contiguous U.S. specifically that allows satellite operators to maintain control of the \u201cmajor factors and levers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Riegelman added that Intelsat hopes to avoid a situation in which the FCC itself is forced to create new mandates for C-band spectrum distribution.
