There has been a distinct lack of satellite orders over the last 12 months and, at the same time, we are entering the era of mega-constellations. Companies such as OneWeb, SpaceX and others are looking to work a more nimble approach and orbit thousands of smaller satellites to maximize revenues in this much-trumpeted “Big Data” era. The question going forward is whether we will see a dramatic upswing in GEO satellite orders. Is the downturn just cyclical, or is there something more to it than that?

One of the architects of this new era is Greg Wyler, who talks to us in-depth about the latest news around OneWeb. Wyler shares his thoughts on the failed merger with Intelsat, as well as where the operator might go next.

Explore the September/October 2017 Issue

Check out more from this issue and find your next story to read.

We also look at the U.S. MilSatCom market, which is never less than fascinating, but even more so this year due to a new administration.

Concurrently, we are getting ready to launch our new event, CyberSat, which looks at the cybersecurity issues facing the satellite industry. The event takes place in Washington, D.C. in November and we have just secured two great keynote speakers: U.S. Rep.
