{"id":67582,"date":"2017-08-04T01:38:22","date_gmt":"2017-08-03T17:38:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wp-productionenv-bjg9h2g2bgg5b8aa.southeastasia-01.azurewebsites.net\/news\/echostar-3-satellite-suffers-anomaly-during-orbital-transfer\/"},"modified":"2017-08-04T01:38:22","modified_gmt":"2017-08-03T17:38:22","slug":"echostar-3-satellite-suffers-anomaly-during-orbital-transfer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/starpath.global\/news\/echostar-3-satellite-suffers-anomaly-during-orbital-transfer\/","title":{"rendered":"EchoStar 3 Satellite Suffers Anomaly During Orbital Transfer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>During EchoStar 3\u2019s transfer to a new orbital location last week, the satellite experienced an anomaly of unknown origin that has interrupted communications, <strong>EchoStar<\/strong> said in an Aug. 2 statement.<\/p>\n<p>EchoStar is working alongside <strong>Lockheed Martin <\/strong>\u2014 the satellite\u2019s manufacturer \u2014 to establish a link to recover and retire the spacecraft, said Derek de Bastos, EchoStar\u2019s Chief Technical Officer (CTO). \u201cIn spite of the anomaly, we believe that the current EchoStar 3 orbit does not present a significant risk to the operating satellites in the geostationary arc,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>EchoStar 3 is a Ku-band satellite that provided coverage over the United States. The satellite, launched in 1997, has already significantly exceeded its 15-year design life. It has been operating in an inclined orbit for more than three years as a non-revenue generating asset, according to EchoStar.<\/p>\n<p>This incident comes just days after an <strong>SES<\/strong> satellite, its second this summer, also experienced an unknown anomaly.
