{"id":68047,"date":"2017-06-15T00:19:32","date_gmt":"2017-06-14T16:19:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wp-productionenv-bjg9h2g2bgg5b8aa.southeastasia-01.azurewebsites.net\/news\/enersys-receives-60-million-in-orders-for-lithium-ion-cells\/"},"modified":"2017-06-15T00:19:32","modified_gmt":"2017-06-14T16:19:32","slug":"enersys-receives-60-million-in-orders-for-lithium-ion-cells","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/starpath.global\/news\/enersys-receives-60-million-in-orders-for-lithium-ion-cells\/","title":{"rendered":"EnerSys Receives $60 Million in Orders for Lithium-Ion Cells"},"content":{"rendered":"<\/p>\n<p><strong>EnerSys<\/strong> has recently been selected to supply lithium-ion cells and batteries valued at over $60 million to multiple space agencies and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) worldwide, the company announced.<\/p>\n<p>EnerSys subsidiary <strong>Quallion&nbsp;<\/strong>will manufacture the lithium-ion raw materials and 72Ah large format lithium-ion cells&nbsp;at its production facilities in Sylmar and Santa Clarita, California.&nbsp;EnerSys subsidiary <strong>ABSL Space Products<\/strong> will design, manufacture and test the batteries at its manufacturing facilities in Longmont, Colorado, for U.S.-based space programs, and Oxfordshire, United Kingdom, for European programs.&nbsp;According to EnersSys, the first batteries are scheduled to be shipped later this year and will be used in multiple types of satellites and launch vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>In October 2001, EnerSys-ABSL\u2019s battery became the first lithium-ion battery to power a satellite when launched aboard the Proba 1 spacecraft.&nbsp;<strong>QinetiQ Space<\/strong> built the spacecraft for the <strong>European Space Agency<\/strong> (ESA) and almost sixteen years later, Proba 1 has become the longest lithium-ion powered mission.
