{"id":68329,"date":"2017-05-01T22:24:26","date_gmt":"2017-05-01T14:24:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wp-productionenv-bjg9h2g2bgg5b8aa.southeastasia-01.azurewebsites.net\/news\/spacex-successfully-launches-us-spy-satellite\/"},"modified":"2017-05-01T22:24:26","modified_gmt":"2017-05-01T14:24:26","slug":"spacex-successfully-launches-us-spy-satellite","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/starpath.global\/news\/spacex-successfully-launches-us-spy-satellite\/","title":{"rendered":"SpaceX Successfully Launches US Spy Satellite"},"content":{"rendered":"<\/p>\n<p><strong>SpaceX<\/strong> successfully completed its NROL-76 mission Monday morning, launching a classified satellite from Launch Complex 39A for the <strong>National Reconnaissance Office <\/strong>(NRO) before landing the first stage booster on a launch pad nearby.<\/p>\n<p>NROL-76 was originally scheduled to launch on Sunday, but was delayed due to an issue with a sensor on the first stage engine, according to SpaceX.<\/p>\n<p>This launch marks SpaceX\u2019s first for the <strong>Department of Defense<\/strong> (DOD) after the <strong>U.S. Air Force <\/strong>certified the Falcon 9 to launch satellites for national security purposes in 2015.<\/p>\n<p>Two years ago, SpaceX sued the U.S. Air Force after it awarded an exclusive sole-source launch contract with <strong>United Launch Alliance<\/strong> (ULA). The company later dropped the suit, as U.S. Air Force agreed to \u201c[expand] the number of competitive opportunities for launch services.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>SpaceX has won two additional contracts from the U.S. Air Force to orbit satellites for its Global Positioning Satellite (GPS 3) program in 2018 and 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Due to the classified nature of the NROL-76 launch, SpaceX has not released details regarding the satellite\u2019s orbital slot or its specific purpose.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>SpaceX successfully completed its NROL-76 mission Monday morning, launching a classified satellite from Launch Complex 39A for the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) before landing the first stage booster on a launch pad nearby.
