[Via Satellite 06-18-2014] Optus Networks<\/b> partnered with Inmarsat<\/b> to develop and deliver a new portable mobile satellite terminal. Optus MobileSat will be targeted to businesses and consumers in remote and rural regions of Australia, as it provides greater data capacity for customers outside of Optus\u2019 3G coverage areas via Inmarsat\u2019s L-band satellite network.<\/p>\n
The new MobileSat terminal enables voice calls and Short Message Service (SMS), as well as email, web browsing and image transfer, all at speeds up to 140 kbps. The terminal is optimized for noisy environments with the new \u2018Amplified Extension Speaker\u2019 included with the device to enable hands-free operation in the noisiest vehicles. The transponder, handset and roof-mounted antenna for the terminal can be installed by MobileSat dealers approved by Optus, and the technology does not require extensive expertise in the area.<\/p>\n
