The CopperHead 3404K requires only two strands of lightweight fiber optic cable to carry all bi-directional signals, including four 3Gb/s HD/SDI paths, for 4K UHDTV productions from camera to truck or control room. This enables 4K UHDTV cameras to be dual-purposed for use in studios, ENG and digital cinematography without the inherent limitations of copper cables.

Miranda’s NVISION 8500 Enterprise Class routers are already 4K UHDTV optimized with SMPTE RP-168-compliant, quad-link 3 Gb/s switching that provides coherent, synchronized switching of all 4K UHDTV links during the same vertical interval. With a wide range of 4K UHDTV enabled hybrid audio/video switching and processing modules, plus support for long-distance fiber cable runs, Miranda’s routers offer a range of reliable 4K UHDTV capabilities suitable for any application.

Monitoring is essential for any live production and Miranda’s multiviewer range readily handles 4K UHDTV via the brand new Kaleido-MX and Kaleido-Modular-X series, giving operators the option of close-quarter viewing of either four square 3G/1080p blocks or a single 3G/1080p image down-converted from 4K UHDTV. The advantage of 4K UHDTV down-conversion (a proprietary solution on display at Miranda’s booth) for monitoring is that it preserves the multiple inputs on a multiviewer for other requirements.

Additionally, the new Kaleido-Modular-X enables broadcasters to create a monitoring system with a combination of versatile input/output cards that use a powerful CPU to drive advanced 4K UHDTV features to maintain exceptional video and graphics quality. A significant advantage is that the modules can be used to vastly simplify system design within a compact, 3RU, air-cooled Miranda Densité 3 frame.

Miranda Technologies, a Belden Brand, a global provider of integrated solutions for production, playout and delivery systems for television broadcasters and multi-system operators, will demonstrate the central role it is playing in the transition to 4K UHDTV production at SMPTE 2013, taking place in Hollywood, California, October 22-24.
