Anik G1 carries 16 extended Ku-band transponders, which are fully contracted to <b>Shaw Direct<\/b> for 15 years; and three X-band transponders fully contracted to <b>Astrium Services<\/b> for 15 years to support government applications across the Americas and much of the Pacific Ocean, including Hawaii.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Co-located with Telesat\u2019s Anik F1 satellite at 107.3 degrees west, the Anik G1 will double both the C-band and Ku-band transponders serving South America, bringing new capacity to the region to help meet the growing demand for satellite communications services.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp; &nbsp; Anik G1 was manufactured by <b>SSL<\/b> based on its highly reliable 1300 platform, and it was launched by an <b>ILS <\/b>Proton rocket on Apr. 16.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[Satellite TODAY 05-08-13] Telesat has announced the start of commercial service on its new Anik G1 satellite.
