The emergence of new OTT video services on televisions and other connected devices increases the threat of cord-cutting. For a great many pay-TV providers in the West, emerging markets therefore represent vital sources of future growth,\u201d says Florence Le Borgne-Bachschmidt, head of the TV &amp; Digital Content Practice at IDATE. <\/p>\n<p>The number of TV households worldwide will reach 1.544 billion by 2017, according to IDATE; an increase of 9.1 percent in 5 years.  <\/p>\n<p>With an expected penetration of 554 million households by 2017, cable will remain the primary source of television.
