Now, the Agency is starting to prepare for launch scheduled for late 2015. <\/p>\n<p>The new GOES series is expected to improve short-term weather forecasts and long-term climatological trends by offering faster and clearer images. The satellite will also continue to monitor lightning activity, the atmosphere, oceans, land and the sun. <\/p>\n<p>The GOES-R Series Program also includes a new data processing ground system, new antenna systems, and a remote back up facility.
