Gen. James Armor has been selected by The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) as the winner of the 2012 AIAA von Braun Award for Excellence in Space Program Management, AIAA and ATK announced Sept. 12.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp; &nbsp;AIAA said it was honoring Armor for his \u201cinsightful leadership in the space community \u2013 as an Air Force officer and GPS Program Manager, as the leader of signal intelligence (SIGINT) systems for the National Reconnaissance Organization (NRO), as the National Security Space Architect, and as a vice president at ATK.\u201d<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;Armor previously served with the U.S. military, integrating national security satellites on the space shuttle as a flight-qualified shuttle payload specialist, leading operational and acquisition planning, drafting space policy at the Pentagon and coordinating classified systems\u2019 use during the first Gulf War.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[09-12-12] ATK Space Systems\u2019 Vice President of Strategy and Business Development, U.S. Air Force (retired) Maj.
