{"id":82634,"date":"2012-08-16T00:11:25","date_gmt":"2012-08-15T16:11:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wp-productionenv-bjg9h2g2bgg5b8aa.southeastasia-01.azurewebsites.net\/news\/nasa-issues-three-cubesat-awards-to-several-aerospace-firms\/"},"modified":"2012-08-16T00:11:25","modified_gmt":"2012-08-15T16:11:25","slug":"nasa-issues-three-cubesat-awards-to-several-aerospace-firms","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/starpath.global\/news\/nasa-issues-three-cubesat-awards-to-several-aerospace-firms\/","title":{"rendered":"NASA Issues Three CubeSat Awards to Several Aerospace Firms"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[08-15-12] <b>NASA\u2019s<\/b> Small Spacecraft Technology Program has awarded contracts to three teams working on ways to exploit the advantages of CubeSats, the agency announced Aug. 14.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp; &nbsp;<b>NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory<\/b> will share a $5.5 million award with <b>Pumpkin Inc.<\/b> for work on the Integrated Solar Array and Reflectarray Antenna (ISARA) project, which aims to increase the amount of data that a tiny satellite can transmit by turning its solar array into a reflector for the satellite\u2019s communications antenna.<br \/>\n<b>&nbsp; &nbsp;Aerospace Corp.<\/b> received a $3.6 million award for its project, titled \u201cIntegrated Optical Communications and Proximity Sensors for Cubesats.\u201d The initiative involves a pair of CubeSats that will use lasers for communicating with the ground, as well as radar and optical sensors to help nanosatellites when maneuvering near one another.<br \/>\n&nbsp; &nbsp;<b>Tyvak Nano-Satellite Systems, Applied Defense Solutions, Aerospace LLC<\/b> and the <b>California Polytechnic State University of San Luis Obispo <\/b>received a joint $13.5 million award for the \u201cProximity Operations Nano-Satellite Flight Demonstration,\u201d which will use two satellites to practice rendezvous and docking maneuvers in orbit.
