\n[03-10-11] Technology vendor NDS <\/strong>is looking to tap into the potential of the over-the-top (OTT) television market by launching its NDS Service Delivery Platform \u2013 a fully scalable platform that aims to enable TV operators to extend their offering to companion devices through third-party applications.
\n    The platform provides an open API that acts as an interface between apps on devices, a service provider\u2019s TV platform and social networks or other Internet content. Providing a standard web services interface, the platform enables the development of applications to complement or control the TV viewing experience.
\n    NDS derives much of its revenues from the satellite sector and works with operators such as DirecTV, BSkyB, Sky Italia<\/strong> and Sky Deutschland<\/strong>. NDS said it hopes the company will see profitable returns in selling this new platform to satellite companies who want to broaden their service offerings and bring OTT elements into it.
\n    NDS also launched its Infinite TV Exchange, which it claims is “the first global B2B content marketplace and delivery system that brings together service providers and content owners to build special interest channels and expand the operator offering \u2013 leveraging OTT delivery,” according to a company statement.
\n    The goal of this Infinite TV Exchange is to enable the monetization and delivery of high-quality, specialized content to pay-TV platforms. The Exchange is designed to help content owners reach global platforms and enable broadcasters to enrich their existing offering the platform provides seamless integration of specialized content, in the form of channels, with an operator\u2019s existing offering to satisfy the individual interests of the subscriber \u2013 ensuring that they remain the prime source of TV entertainment.
\n    “The idea of creating a marketplace where broadcasters and service providers can negotiate directly with content owners to build and integrate their own specialized, OTT channels is the kind of innovation that is needed \u2013 giving subscribers an integrated entertainment experience,” Gartner Research <\/strong>Vice President Mike McGuire said in a statement.<\/p>\n
