[03-07-11] Romanian telco RomTelecom <\/strong>has agreed to acquire DTH operator Boom TV <\/strong>in a deal that represents a significant consolidation of the Romanian DTH market, RomTelecom announced March 3.
\n\u00c2 \u00c2 \u00c2  A RomTelecom spokesperson told Satellite TODAY Insider that RomTelecom, with more than 1 million DTH and IPTV subscribers, will add another 100,000 DTH subscribers to its overall mix as a result of the deal. The Boom TV is subject to regulatory approval from the authorities in Romania.
\n\u00c2 \u00c2 \u00c2  Romania has been one of Eastern Europe\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s most dynamic DTH markets with a number of operators offering pay-TV services to a relatively small number of households. During the last few years, the country has seen a plethora of operators entering the market to offer TV services via satellite.
\n\u00c2 \u00c2 \u00c2  Like most telcos, offering video services has become a key part of RomTelecom\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s overall strategy. The company launched its Dolce DTH service in late 2006. Its offering to customers now includes seven HD channels. RomTelecom also provides broadband services, with more than 1 million broadband subscribers in Romania at the end of 2010.
\n\u00c2 \u00c2 \u00c2  Financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed.<\/p>\n
