{"id":85290,"date":"2011-03-01T17:16:08","date_gmt":"2011-03-01T09:16:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wp-productionenv-bjg9h2g2bgg5b8aa.southeastasia-01.azurewebsites.net\/news\/lightsquared-usgic-form-working-group-to-tackle-interference-issues\/"},"modified":"2011-03-01T17:16:08","modified_gmt":"2011-03-01T09:16:08","slug":"lightsquared-usgic-form-working-group-to-tackle-interference-issues","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/starpath.global\/news\/lightsquared-usgic-form-working-group-to-tackle-interference-issues\/","title":{"rendered":"LightSquared, USGIC Form Working Group to Tackle Interference Issues"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[03-01-11] <strong>LightSquared<\/strong> has formed a working group with the <strong>U.S. Global Positioning System Industry Council<\/strong> (USGIC) to study potential interference problems the 4G LTE terrestrial-satellite network might pose on GPS systems, LightSquared announced Feb. 28.<br \/>\n&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The formation of the group follows a report filed in January to the <strong>U.S. Federal Communications Commission<\/strong> (FCC) by <strong>Garmin<\/strong> Engineers Scott Burgett and Bronson Hokuf, which asserted that the stronger signals created by the LightSquared mobile network base stations and the SkyTerra-1 satellite would, \u201cseriously limit GPS reception, causing widespread GPS jamming and depriving vast areas of the United States of GPS coverage.\u201d<br \/>\n&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The <strong>U.S. National Telecommunications and Information Administration <\/strong>(NTIA) also expressed concern to the FCC about LightSquared\u2019s proposed LTE network interfering with GPS satellites and other emergency communications. <br \/>\nLightSquared received conditional FCC approval to install its network in January.
