[12-15-10] At the beginning of 2010, GlobeCast<\/strong> set out on a strategic initiative to build out its infrastructure and sign its first media asset management deals with its Netia<\/strong> subsidiary. According to GlobeCast CEO Olivier Barberot, the company has exceeded these goals, driven by notable gains in playout services, event coverage and international content delivery.<\/p>\n

\t\u201cWe had a banner year in 2010,\u201d Barberot said in a conference call. \u201cThe company saw an increase in channel distribution activities around the world and grew its infrastructure to accommodate this increase.\u201d<\/p>\n

\tGlobeCast increased the number of its international playout channels by 86 percent to a total of 54 in 2010. To support this growth, the company added 17,000 miles of fiber to its backbone network, which now contains 120,000 miles of fiber. The company also added points of presence in Luxembourg, Warsaw, Moscow, S\u00e3o Paulo, Buenos Aires and Johannesburg, for a total of 31.<\/p>\n

    \u201cTransport, manage and play was the theme of 2010,\u201d said Barberot. \u201cWe set out this year to add more value to our service offering across the value chain. Notable channel distribution business included the launch of Russia Today to Europe and the Americas and the expansion of France 24\u2019s American coverage. This also was a year filled with major sporting events. We were present to deliver thousands of hours of content in HD at such events as the FIFA World Cup and the Vancouver Olympics. In November at the Asian Games, GlobeCast delivered over 2,500 hours of content to a potential audience of billions.\u201d<\/p>\n

    GlobeCast, supported by Netia, also grew its media asset management activities in 2010. In April, the company was selected to ingest 22,000 hours of tape-based content into a tapeless workflow for leading Indian broadcaster B4U. In France, GlobeCast now handles five video-on-demand\/catch-up TV channels with more thab 4,000 pieces of content managed every month\tBarberot also hinted that new media asset management and global playout contracts are in the works for early 2011. <\/p>\n
