The compression system was installed with on-site start-up services from Thomson, which also provided integration with the broadcaster’s existing XMS network management system.
On Oct. 4, TVN was selected by South African pay-TV operator MultiChoice to install ViBE EM2000 dual-channel SD encoders as part of an infrastructure expansion for MultiChoice’s Johannesburg headend facilities broadcasting to sub-Saharan Africa.
MultiChoice said the ViBE EM2000 would allow the broadcaster to achieve high-density expansion of its head-end capability to meet increasing demand for services. The ViBE EM2000 encoders are deployed by MultiChoice within the framework of a redundant IP architecture designed to support multiple transponders with output from Thomson NetProcessor multiplexers.
Future growth of capacity will require only the addition of extra encoders, Multichoice said.

Related Stories-

MultiChoice Installs Thomson SD Encoders for South African Headend Satellite Today September 14, 2010
[09-14-10] South African pay-television operator MultiChoice has installed Thomson Video Networks’ ViBE EM2000 dual-channel SD encoders, as part of an infrastructure expansion for its Johannesburg headend facilities broadcasting to…

Pace Acquires U.S. Gateway, Software Provider Satellite Today July 27, 2010
[07-27-10] U.K. satellite broadcast technology developer Pace has acquired 2Wire, a U.S. provider of advanced residential gateways and associated software and services from co-owners Alcatel-Lucent, AT&T, Telmex and Oak Investment…

TVN Appoints New CEO Satellite Today August 17, 2009
[08-17-09] National Polish media group TVN has appointed Markus Tellenbach group president and CEO, the broadcaster announced Aug. 13.
