[11-18-09] Astrium<\/strong> reported a 17 percent increase in revenues for the first nine months of 2009 compared to the same stage in 2009, according to its 2009 third quarter financial results released Nov 16.
\n    However, the company\u2019s 2009 third quarter revenues slipped 1 percent to $1.03 billion from $1.55 billion generated in the prior-year quarter. The company attributed the slide to the limited profitability of in-orbit payments it received during the quarter, the global economy and the weak U.S. dollar.
\n    Despite the recession, the company\u2019s stands strong at this point of the year. For the nine months to the end of September, Astrium gained revenues of 3.23 billion euros ($4.83 billion). This compares to 2.75 million euros ($4.11 billion) in the first nine months of last year. The company said it had seen revenue increases across all of its business in the first nine months of the year.
\n    The company has also seen two of its recently built satellites, Amazonas 2 (Hispasat) and SatComBW1 (German Armed Forces) successfully launched in September. Astrium said in terms of revenue split that it derived around 63 percent of its revenues from civil programs and 37 percent from defence programs.<\/p>\n
