The IC delivers high transmit output power, allowing it to drive compatible companion front-end modules directly without requiring intermediate discrete driver amplifiers.

The architecture pairs the QPX0252 beamformer with Qorvo’s previously launched QPF5012 X-band front-end module, alongside dedicated integrated circuits for gallium nitride (GaN) power amplifier bias control and RF switching. By consolidating these functions, the multi-chip set supports sub-100 nanosecond transmit-to-receive switching speeds while providing up to 20 dB higher cascaded input 1dB compression points (P1dB) in high-linearity receive modes compared to conventional discrete architectures.

Defense Leadership Perspective on System Integration

“Beamformers are typically designed as stand-alone components, leaving customers to integrate the FEMs, bias control and RF switching around them,” said Diwakar Vishakhadatta, Vice President of Defense & Aerospace Products at Qorvo. “We developed the QPX0252 as part of the X-band front-end architecture, defining its transmit, receive and control functions around the requirements of the radar system.”

Product Availability and Evaluation Lifecycle

Samples and evaluation kits for the QPX0252 beamformer IC are available immediately through Qorvo’s commercial distribution channels, with companion gate-bias, drain-bias, and RF switch control devices also entering customer sampling. The integrated solution is compatible with Qorvo’s existing production-grade X-band FEM portfolio, supporting defense radar manufacturers scaling next-generation airborne, maritime, and ground-based tactical array production lines.

London, United Kingdom — On Friday, October 2, 2026, semiconductor manufacturer Qorvo introduced an integrated X-band radio frequency (RF) front-end solution designed for active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar systems during European Microwave Week in London.
