China Commercial Rocket, the full name of China Aerospace Science and Technology Group Commercial Rocket Co., Ltd., was established in 2024 and is committed to comprehensively improving commercial launch service capabilities and quickly launching a highly market-competitive reusable launch vehicle.

Main business

China Commercial Fire is mainly engaged in rocket development, engine development, launch site operation, measurement, control and launch services, and provides “one-stop” launch services covering rocket selection and procurement, plan coordination, launch site resource coordination, licensing processing, insurance arrangements and other “one-stop” launch services.

First commercial launch service

On May 14, 2025, the Long March-2D carrier rocket successfully launched the NationStar Space Computing Satellite Constellation into the predetermined orbit at the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center. This mission was provided by China Comer as the general contractor, marking the successful completion of its first commercial launch service. It is worth mentioning that on March 15, the Long March 2D carrier rocket successfully put the “SiD Gaojing 3-02” into the scheduled orbit at the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center, but the Great Wall Aerospace Company served as the general contractor for this task.

reusable launch vehicle

On March 15, 2025, the reusable launch vehicle Long March 12B developed by China Commercial Vehicle Administration successfully completed the test run of the second-stage power system at the power system test bed of the Yungang Proving Ground of the Beijing Institute of Aerospace Test Technology. The successful test marks that the Aerospace Science and Technology Group’s reusable commercial launch vehicle development work has officially entered the “quick clearance” mode and entered a new stage of development.

Self-built launch station

On April 12, 2025, the China Bidding and Bidding Public Service Platform showed that the “Aerospace Science and Technology Group Commercial Rocket Company Research and Test Launch Station Construction Project” has started the bid opening and evaluation process in Minhang, Shanghai. On May 23, the 165th Institute of the Sixth Academy of Aerospace Science held a kick-off meeting for the China Shanghuo Jiuquan launch station construction project and announced the establishment of a special project team and a temporary party branch to fully promote the construction of the project. It is expected to complete the launch station construction task in mid-October 2025, providing a solid guarantee for the first flight of the Long March 12 series of reusable rockets.

future outlook

With the official operation of China Commercial Vehicles, the Aerospace Science and Technology Group is gradually integrating commercial launch resources and gradually handing over the commercial launch services of the Long March series of launch vehicles originally handled by China Aerospace Great Wall Company to the unified operation of China Commercial Vehicles. Currently, the First Academy, the Eighth Academy, China Rocketry and other units all have rocket development capabilities. Whether the technical resources, project capabilities and production capacity of these units will be further integrated in the future to focus on China’s commercial rockets and create a more efficient commercial rocket R&D and delivery system has become a key focus of the industry. At the same time, China Commercial Huo has started the development of the Long March 12B reusable launch vehicle. Whether it will continue to expand its model lineage and launch a series of products for different orbits and different payload requirements will also largely determine its competitiveness and dominance in the future commercial aerospace market.
