1. Basic information
Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center was built in 1967 and is located 18 kilometers north of Kelan County, Xinzhou City, Shanxi Province. It is located in the temperate zone with an altitude of about 1,500 meters. The coordinates of the launch site are 111 degrees 36 minutes east longitude and 38 degrees 50 minutes north latitude. The launch center has rocket and satellite test workshops, equipment processing rooms, launch operation facilities, flight tracking and safety control facilities. The Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center has multi-direction, multi-orbit, long-range and high-precision measurement capabilities. It is mainly responsible for the launch of sun-synchronous orbit and polar orbit spacecraft. It has the ability to support various types of medium and low-orbit space launch missions such as meteorology, resources, and communications.
2. Launch station
(1) Launch Station No. 8
Launch station No. 8 is the launch silo.
(2) Launch Station No. 9
Launch station No. 9 can launch the Long March 2 and Long March 4 series launch vehicles. The site was completed in 2008 and has cryogenic launch capabilities.
(3) Launch station No. 16 (station 9601):
Launch station No. 16 can launch the Long March 6 carrier rocket.
(4) 9A launch station
Launch station 9A can launch Long March 6A, Long March 6C and other launch vehicles. Construction started in mid-2018 and will be completed in 2021.
(5) Field
The platform can launch the Kuaizhou-1A carrier rocket.
3. Sea launch capability
On December 6, 2023, the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center used the Jielong 3 carrier rocket in the sea near Yangjiang, Guangdong to successfully launch the satellite Internet technology test satellite. The satellite successfully entered the predetermined orbit, and the launch mission was a complete success.
On January 11, 2024, the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center used the Gravity-1 Yaoyi commercial launch vehicle in the sea near Haiyang, Shandong, to successfully send the three Yunyao-1 18-20 satellites into the predetermined orbit. The flight test mission was a complete success.
On February 3, 2024, the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center used the Jielong 3 carrier rocket in the waters near Yangjiang, Guangdong, and successfully launched a total of 9 satellites: DRO-L satellite, Zhixing 2A satellite, Dongfang Huiyan Gaofen 01 satellite, Weihai 1st 01-02 satellite, Star Times-18-20 satellite and NEXSAT-1 satellite. The satellites successfully entered the predetermined orbit, and the launch mission was a complete success.
