Loft Orbital Federal Secures NASA Task Order for RadPC Project Under Flight Opportunities Program

Loft Orbital Federal, a provider of turn-key space infrastructure services, today announced the award of a task order from NASA under the agency’s Flight Opportunities program. This task order is for the integration, launch, and on-orbit operations of a mission supporting the Fault Tolerant RISC-V Flight Computer with Coprocessor Support (RadPC) project.

The task order is under the fourth NASA Flight Opportunities Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract, which aims to accelerate the testing and maturation of innovative space technologies by providing commercial flight and payload integration services for NASA and other agency missions. As a named recipient on this five-year, up to $45 million IDIQ, Loft Federal will deliver comprehensive mission support, including payload accommodation, licensing, satellite integration, launch campaign management, and on-orbit operations for a range of NASA technology demonstration payloads.

The recently awarded task order will enable the hosted-orbital flight test of a next-generation fault-tolerant RISC-V flight computer architecture with coprocessor support. Developed through multi-year NASA research funding and led by Montana State University and startup Resilient Computing, this system leverages advanced field programmable gate array (FPGA) technologies and the RISC-V architecture to deliver high-performance, radiation-tolerant computing capabilities valuable for deep space missions. The project focuses on robust, self-healing computer systems designed to efficiently manage computational loads and recover from single-event upsets caused by the harsh space environment.

“With this award, Loft Federal reaffirms its role as a trusted partner for government agencies seeking rapid, reliable, and risk-mitigated access to space for critical technology demonstrations,” said Mark Mueller, Director of Business Development at Loft Federal. “We are proud to support NASA’s pioneering efforts in advancing fault-tolerant, high-performance computing solutions that are foundational for the next era of scientific discovery and exploration.”

Loft Federal’s fully-managed solution streamlines all mission phases payload engineering, satellite integration, regulatory compliance, launch, and long-term operations enabling NASA-supported research teams to focus on the intricacies of technology development while Loft manages the access to space.
