BlackSky Technology has received a potential $24-plus million task order to provide the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) with object detection monitoring of military and economic facilities worldwide.
The initial award under the Luno A Facility Operational Monitoring order is for $2 million, BlackSky said on Tuesday. The task order has a four-year period.
BlackSky said it “will perform AI-enabled object and pattern-of-life change detection to monitor trends and anomalies in vehicle, aircraft, vessel, railcar and ground equipment activity at military and economic facilities worldwide, including ports, airfields, military installations and railways.”
BlackSky operates a constellation of electro-optical Earth observation satellites. In addition to providing imagery to customers, the Northern Virginia-based company provides analytic services such as those being offered under Luno A.
NGA in September 2024 selected 10 companies to compete for upward of $290 million in task orders under the Luno A program, which is leveraging technologies like computer vision and other analytics applied to economic, military, and environmental monitoring.
Previously, NGA awarded Luno A task orders to Ursa Space Systems, Maxar Technologies, and Electromagnetic Systems Inc.
