[08-26-10] Japanese electronics manufacturer Toshiba is planning to market a 3-D television that does not need special glasses later this year, according to a report in Japan’s Yomiuri Shimbun newspaper.
While Toshiba wouldn’t reveal details of the new TV sets, it confirmed in a statement that a glasses-free 3-D TV set is in development.
According to the report, Toshiba will unveil three models of the television, which utilizes a system that emits a number of rays of light with various angles from the screen so that viewers can see stereoscopic images without glasses.
Toshiba and other major electronics makers launched 3-D television earlier this year. Consumer market reports in Japan said that the most common complaint from customers over 3-D was the requirement to wear glasses while watching TV.
