1. Basic information
YF-100 is my country’s first generation 120-ton high-pressure supplementary combustion liquid oxygen kerosene rocket engine, which was developed by the Sixth Academy of Aerospace Science and Technology. According to the vector control capability, YF-100 can be divided into YF-100F (one-way swing in front of the pump), YF-100G (two-way swing in front of the pump ±6°), and YF-100H (no swing capability). In addition, improved versions of YF-100 also include YF-100K, YF-100N, and YF-100M.

3. Development process
In April 1999, the YF-100 development unit submitted a project request titled “Request for Instructions on the Development of a Hundred-Ton Liquid Oxygen/Kerosene Engine.” In 2000, the YF-100 engine passed the project review. In April 2001, the YF-100 conducted its first test run, but it exploded during startup. On September 28, 2001, the YF-100 completed its first successful ignition, and the test run lasted 2.84 seconds. However, the engine gas system burned out during the test run, and the engine eventually shut down in an emergency. In October 2001, YF-100 entered the preliminary prototype development stage. On May 16, 2002, the YF-100 successfully completed its first complete machine test run. In January 2005, YF-100 completed test bench testing in Baolongyu. On October 30, 2005, YF-100 completed its first 300-second long-range swing test run. In December 2005, YF-100 entered the sample development stage. On July 3, 2006, YF-100 completed its first 600-second swing test. On November 11, 2010, the YF-100 completed its first dual-machine joint test. On May 28, 2012, YF-100 passed the acceptance inspection by the State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense. On September 25, 2015, the YF-100 engine was launched on the Long March 6 carrier rocket.
4. Installed application
The installed rockets of YF-100 mainly include Long March 5, Long March 5B, Long March 6, Long March 6A, Long March 6C, Long March 7, Long March 7A, Long March 8, Long March 8A, etc.
Long March 5: Long March 5 has four boosters, each with a diameter of 3.35 meters and two YF-100 engines.
Long March 5B: Long March 5B has four boosters, each with a diameter of 3.35 meters and two YF-100 engines.
Long March 6: The first stage of the Long March 6 is 3.35 meters in diameter and equipped with a double-pendulum YF-100 engine.
Long March 6A: The sub-stage module of the Long March 6A is modified from the 3.35-meter-diameter booster module of the Long March 5. It contains two YF-100 engines with double pendulum engines.
Long March 6C: The first stage of the Long March 6C has a diameter of 3.35 meters and is equipped with two YF-100 engines. The engines swing in both directions.
Long March 7: Long March 7 has four boosters with a diameter of 2.25 meters, each with a YF-100 engine; the first stage of the Long March 7 has a diameter of 3.35 meters and has two double-swing YF-100 engines.
Long March 7A: Long March 7A has four boosters with a diameter of 2.25 meters. Each booster is equipped with a single-pendulum YF-100 engine. The diameter of the first sub-stage is 3.35 meters, and two fixed YF-100 engines are installed.
Long March 8: Long March 8 has two boosters with a diameter of 2.25 meters, each booster is equipped with a YF-100 engine, and the diameter of the first sub-stage is 3.35 meters, equipped with two YF-100 engines.
Long March 8A: The boost and first stage of the Long March 8A are basically the same as those of the Long March 8. It has two boosters with a diameter of 2.25 meters. Each booster is equipped with a YF-100 engine. The first stage has a diameter of 3.35 meters and is equipped with two YF-100 engines.
