Mexico Debuts First Film Distributed Via Satellite in Latin America

Universal Studios’ “Despicable Me 2” recently became the first film to get wide satellite distribution in Latin America. Contenido Alternativo, Latin America’s first alternative digital distributor, delivered the film to 281 Cinepolis theaters in Mexico.

The new satellite technology is faster, more efficient and less expensive, according to reports. The digital conversion has allowed theaters to phase out pricey celluloid copies. Experts believe 2013 could be the last year film prints are distributed in U.S. theaters.
