Geespace, the commercial aerospace subsidiary of China’s Geely Holding Group, said it has launched construction of its global headquarters in Hangzhou and signed a strategic cooperation agreement with local investment partners.
The deal with Zhejiang Jinkong Investment Management, Hangzhou Capital and Hangzhou High-Tech Venture Capital will support investment and industrial development aimed at building a satellite communications hub, the company said. Geespace also secured 2 billion yuan ($275 million) from the Zhejiang New Energy Vehicle Industry Fund to finance the headquarters project and expand the Geely Future Mobility Constellation globally.
Geespace has nearly completed the first phase of its constellation deployment, with 64 satellites in orbit including trial units, providing real-time coverage worldwide except at the poles. Within 60 degrees north and south latitude, the network offers dual-layer coverage capable of handling up to 340 million communications daily for around 20 million users. Once all 72 satellites are deployed, the system will add up to four overlapping coverage layers to boost capacity and reliability.
The network supports text, voice and image communications with single-channel capacity of 1,900 bytes. Geespace said it has developed full-stack research and manufacturing capabilities, from constellation design and satellite production to communication chips and terminals. Its services are already expanding in regions including the Middle East, Africa, Southeast Asia, Central Asia and Latin America, with partnerships in more than 20 countries.
