China Star, the full name of China Aerospace Science and Technology Group Commercial Satellite Co., Ltd., was established in 2024 and is affiliated to China Aerospace Science and Technology Group Co., Ltd. It is an important subject of technology, management and model innovation in the commercial aerospace field of the group company. China Commercial Star focuses on the research and development of a new generation of low-orbit commercial communication satellites with high cost performance and high integration. It undertakes the design and manufacturing tasks of satellite Internet systems. It also actively expands the development of other types of commercial aircraft and is committed to creating core products and capability systems with market competitiveness.

Shanghai Business Star
The WeChat public account of Shanghai Aerospace and Space Technology Co., Ltd. shows that its account name has been changed to “Shanghai Commercial Satellite” (hereinafter referred to as “Shanghai Commercial Satellite”). Shanghai Shangxing was originally affiliated to the Eighth Institute of Aerospace Science and Technology Group. It was established on August 1, 2020. It is positioned as a commercial small satellite system company and is mainly engaged in the overall design and integration of commercial satellites and satellite data development and application. At present, the company has been placed under the unified management of China Business Star.

Hainan Satellite Super Factory
On April 3, 2025, the Aerospace Satellite Super Factory (Hainan) Co., Ltd., China Commercial Star’s first foreign investment, was officially established. The project will be launched in Wenchang, Hainan, to build a satellite super factory. It is reported that the factory is planned to be completed and put into production by the end of 2025, and the first satellite will be rolled off the production line. After the project is completed, the annual production capacity will reach 1,000 satellites, and it will become the only satellite production base in the country capable of satellite assembly and satellite assembly.

future outlook
With the construction of the Hainan Satellite Super Factory, China Star will achieve a leap in satellite batch production capacity, with an expected annual output of up to 1,000 satellites. It is expected to significantly reduce the manufacturing cost of a single satellite and provide strong support for its in-depth participation in the construction of the State Grid constellation. In the future, China Commercial Star is expected to form a R&D and manufacturing synergy with China Star Network to accelerate the large-scale deployment of my country’s low-orbit communication satellite constellation. In addition, both the Fifth Academy and the Eighth Academy have profound technical accumulation and engineering experience in the field of low-orbit satellites. Among them, the Fifth Institute has long been an industry leader in the overall design of satellite systems and communication payload integration, while the Eighth Institute has unique advantages in mass production of small satellites and lightweight platform research and development. In the future, whether the resources of these two institutes will be centralized and integrated into China Commercial Star will largely affect the development height and pattern positioning of China Commercial Star in the commercial satellite market.
