JFW Industries Introduces CATV and Satellite Models for Satellite Communication Networks

JFW Industries, a long-established manufacturer of radio-frequency (RF) components, is providing the CATV and Satellite Models portfolio with a range of precision-engineered attenuators, loads, splitters, taps and termination products designed to support satellite communications and cable television infrastructure. These products are already widely deployed across commercial and institutional networks, where predictable RF performance, signal integrity and long-term reliability are critical.

JFW’s CATV and satellite models are built to manage signal levels, impedance matching and power dissipation within satellite communication chains and broadband distribution systems. The product line includes fixed and variable attenuators, coaxial terminations, directional couplers, power dividers and loads, all designed to operate across commonly used satellite and CATV frequency bands. These components play a fundamental role in conditioning RF signals, protecting sensitive equipment and enabling accurate signal measurement and calibration within ground-based satellite systems. They are commonly used in teleport facilities, gateway stations, earth stations, network operations centers and satellite integration and test laboratories. These models are designed with tight electrical tolerances to ensure repeatable attenuation values, low voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) and stable performance across temperature variations typical of indoor and outdoor ground installations. Mechanical designs emphasize robust connectors, durable housings and consistent impedance control, supporting long service life in fixed infrastructure as well as mobile or transportable satellite terminals.

The USB-controlled model 50P-2154 is a solid-state programmable attenuator designed for fast and precise attenuation control. It offers attenuation steps of 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, and two 32 dB steps, with a switching speed of just 4 microseconds. The insertion loss is performance-optimized with 4.9 dB typical at 2000 MHz, 5.1 dB at 4000 MHz, and 6.7 dB at 8400 MHz, not exceeding 7.5 dB across the full frequency band. The unit features SMA female connectors and delivers a typical VSWR of <1.6:1.

The Ethernet-controlled model 50PA-1300 is a rack-mountable programmable attenuator assembly that supports up to 8 independently controlled attenuators. It combines solid-state step attenuators with both Ethernet and RS-232 remote control interfaces, as well as manual control via a front-panel display and keypad. Designed with lab and rack integration in mind, it is enclosed in a 19-inch rack-mount chassis. The typical insertion loss values are 5.2 dB at 2000 MHz, 5.8 dB at 4000 MHz, and 7.5 dB at 8400 MHz, with a maximum of 8.5 dB across the operating band. It operates within a temperature range of 0ºC to +50ºC, and its VSWR performance is typically <1.7:1.

The TTL-controlled model 50P-2152 also features solid-state attenuation with ultra-fast 1-microsecond switching speed. Like the USB model, it supports up to +24 dBm input power and uses SMA female connectors. It shares the same insertion loss profile as the USB variant, with a maximum of 7.5 dB over the full 400–8400 MHz range and a typical VSWR of <1.6:1. This new family of programmable attenuators provides flexible control interfaces and consistent RF performance, making it an ideal solution for automated test systems and lab setups requiring reliable attenuation across wideband RF signals.

JFW’s CATV and satellite models are used across broadcast distribution networks, broadband satellite gateways, government and defense communication facilities and enterprise satellite links. In broadcast and CATV systems, the products help manage signal distribution across complex networks with multiple branches and loads. In satellite systems, they support uplink and downlink chains by enabling precise signal conditioning, protecting high-value equipment and maintaining measurement accuracy during commissioning and maintenance. By providing standardized, readily available RF components, JFW Industries enables satellite operators, system integrators and test engineers to build and maintain communication systems with predictable RF behavior. The CATV and Satellite Models portfolio supports both routine network operation and specialized test and measurement activities, reducing integration complexity and helping ensure stable performance across satellite communication infrastructures.
