Institute 513 was founded in 1958 and is affiliated to the Fifth Academy of Aerospace Science and Technology. It was formerly known as the Institute of Radio Electronics, Hebei Branch of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. 513 Institute is a national high-tech enterprise and an important research and development unit of my country’s aerospace electronic products.

Industrial layout
The 513 Institute is currently the only integrated scientific research institution in Shandong Province engaged in high-tech aerospace research. In 2020, 513 institutes opened Yantai High-tech North District, establishing an industrial layout for the coordinated development of Zhifu Park, High-tech North District, and High-tech South District.

Main business
The 513 Institute is mainly engaged in micro-nano satellite manufacturing, space information systems and integrated electronics, measurement and control and communications, power electronics, computer applications, microelectronics technology research and development and product development, as well as technical research, equipment development and technical services in the field of defense equipment, including telemetry encryption and telemetry mining and development, launch vehicle (upper stage) data processing, etc.

Application cases
The products developed by 513 are widely used in the fields of satellites, spacecrafts, rockets and defense equipment. It has successively participated in the development tasks of all manned aerospace engineering models such as the Shenzhou series and Tianzhou series in my country, as well as the development tasks of the third-generation Beidou navigation satellite positioning system.
513 Institute has built my country’s first Hall sensor Yugao production line, microelectronics thick film production line, semiconductor device packaging production line, and flow meter digital manufacturing production line, etc., and actively promotes the development of the aerospace technology application industry.

commercial aerospace applications
On April 26, 2018, five satellites of Group 02 of the “Zhuhai-1” commercial remote sensing micro-nano satellite constellation were successfully launched. The 513 Institute was responsible for the final assembly of the satellites and the development of multiple key products. In addition, the 513 Institute also organized comprehensive electronic and other product demonstrations for the Luojia-102 satellite platform and completed the development tasks of multiple commercial satellite products.

Entering commercial aerospace
As early as 2018, 513 Institute hosted the first commercial satellite manufacturing industry development forum and actively promoted the development of the commercial satellite manufacturing industry. In November 2020, the 513 High-tech North District satellite supporting project was officially launched. The project has built an aerospace flexible intelligent manufacturing industry base with an annual delivery capacity of 5,000 sets of components, and a Shandong Micro-nano Satellite Technology Innovation Center to promote the transformation of commercial satellite component manufacturing from individual processing to industrialized production lines, and to enter commercial aerospace.
