In the frame of the European Space Agency’s Hera mission, GomSpace and SPACEBEL sign a contract for the implementation of Juventas Operations, where HOOP’s advanced Mission Control Center capabilities will be used.
The contract is valued at approx. 8.4 MSEK will be implemented from now until Q2 2027. Under the contract, GomSpace will provide advanced operational support system capabilities for the final phase of the HERA-Juventas cubesat mission — covering both the cruise and asteroid phases and supporting through to the mission’s completion. The solution, built on GomSpace’s HOOP product, is deployed and integrated into the HERA Cubesat Mission Operation Center (CMOC), led by SPACEBEL and located at ESA’s ESEC centre in Redu (Belgium). It enables autonomous operations for the Juventas satellite developed by GomSpace.
The HERA-Juventas satellite and its Milani companion will start exploring the binary Didymos-Dimorphos asteroid system from January 2027 until May 2027. “The HERA mission represents a major step forward in Europe’s planetary defence strategy and cost-efficient space exploration; it paves the way for future progress in this field. We are proud to contribute to the ground segment implementation by leveraging our HOOP product to support Hera’s Juventas mission”, said Carsten Drachmann, CEO at GomSpace.
