Tomorrow.io Raises $175 Million to Expand AI Weather Satellite Network

Israeli-founded weather technology company Tomorrow.io has raised $175 million in new funding at a valuation exceeding $1 billion to accelerate deployment of its AI-driven DeepSky satellite network.

The round was led by Stonecourt Capital and HarbourVest, bringing the company’s total funding to about $500 million. Headquartered in Boston, Tomorrow.io employs roughly 150 staff in Israel and generates an estimated $100 million in annual recurring revenue.

DeepSky is designed as a constellation of low Earth orbit satellites equipped with advanced atmospheric sensors capable of delivering high-frequency, global weather observations. The company says the system aims to improve forecast accuracy by addressing limitations in existing models, which depend heavily on sparse or aging data sources.

The company, founded in 2016 by Shimon Elkabetz, Rei Goffer and Itai Zlotnik, was previously known as ClimaCell. Its founders say accurate weather intelligence is increasingly critical for economic planning, infrastructure protection and national security.

“We are an American company with a small development center in Tel Aviv, while most of our operations are based in the United States,” co-founder Rei Goffer said, adding that the firm aims to deploy dozens of larger, sensor-rich satellites by the end of the decade.

Unlike traditional weather satellites, which are often limited in number and coverage, DeepSky spacecraft are designed to provide continuous global monitoring with rapid data refresh rates. Each satellite is expected to carry multiple sensors and be significantly larger than typical small weather satellites.

Industry analysts note that many government weather satellites are approaching retirement, potentially creating data gaps if replacements are delayed. Tomorrow.io argues that commercial systems can fill that gap more quickly through private investment and scalable deployment.

The company already operates a number of satellites in orbit and positions DeepSky as a next-generation infrastructure platform for both public and private users, including aviation, defense, logistics and energy sectors.
