Planet Labs has signed an enterprise-scale agreement with the Surveying and Mapping Authority of the Republic of Slovenia (GURS) to provide satellite imagery and services to support public sector activities including agriculture monitoring, urban planning and disaster management.
Under the agreement, Slovenian state and municipal authorities will gain access to PlanetScope satellite imagery as well as high-resolution tasking services coordinated through GURS. Planet said the data will serve as a common spatial foundation for national-level analysis, including forest and agricultural monitoring, infrastructure and urban development planning, and natural disaster response.
Planet said the arrangement will provide a single, consistent satellite data resource across Slovenia’s civil public administration. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Planet maintains an office in Ljubljana and expanded its presence in the country in 2023 through the acquisition of Slovenian geospatial software company Sinergise, whose Earth Data Platform is used by a range of satellite data providers and public agencies.
“Our mission at GURS is to provide the highest quality geodetic and spatial data to support the prosperity and safety of the Republic of Slovenia,” said Tomaž Petek. He said the integration of daily satellite imagery and high-resolution tasking would support faster decision-making during natural disasters and improve long-term planning of the country’s built and natural environments.
Planet operates one of the world’s largest fleets of Earth observation satellites, providing daily global imagery to government and commercial customers.
